Israel Holds 9,300 Palestinian Prisoners, Including Women and Children

Gaza Herald- Palestinian Prisoners’ Institutions reported that the Israeli authorities have detained approximately 9,300 Palestinians, the majority of whom are pretrial and administrative detainees.

The figure, based on Israeli Prison Service data, does not include prisoners held in Israeli military camps, according to a joint statement issued on Tuesday.

The institutions revealed that the number of detained prisoners reached 1,254, including 51 women, of whom two are girls, and 350 children held at Ofer and Megiddo Prisons.

According to the statement, there are 3,350 administrative detainees and 1,220 prisoners classified as unlawful combatants, not including all detainees from Gaza held in Israeli military camps.

The Palestinian prisoner institutions noted that this designation also affects Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria, constituting a clear breach of international humanitarian law.

Released Palestinian prisoners face severe violations in Israeli prisons, including beatings, torture, rape, starvation, and denial of health care, particularly for the sick, according to testimonies and human rights reports.

Since October 7, more than 100 prisoners from Gaza have died under torture, medical neglect, and poor detention conditions, while the fate of hundreds more remains unknown amid enforced disappearances.

Far-right Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has intensified harsh measures against Palestinian prisoners, including limited food, water, visits, and hygiene, actions condemned as inhumane and illegal under international law.
