UN Warns Israel Blocks Aid as Genocide Deepens Gaza Suffering

Gaza Herald – The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned on Tuesday that delays and restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation are severely obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as winter storms intensify the suffering of displaced families.

OCHA spokesperson in Gaza Olga Cherevko said humanitarian needs are rising faster than aid can be delivered, despite ongoing efforts by the United Nations and relief partners working under extreme conditions on the ground.

She stressed that Israel continues to block a growing list of essential items, including heavy machinery, equipment, and spare parts needed to clear rubble and repair homes destroyed during the genocide.

Cherevko added that sweeping Israeli occupation restrictions on routes and crossings are crippling humanitarian operations, leaving aid agencies unable to meet urgent and life-saving needs as conditions rapidly deteriorate.

In parallel, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution demanding that Israel, as the occupation power, allow full humanitarian access to Gaza and respect UN facilities, citing the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion. The resolution passed with 139 votes in favor, reflecting mounting international alarm over Israel’s ongoing genocide and collective punishment of Palestinians.
