Gaza Herald – The International Criminal Court (ICC) has dismissed Israel’s appeal challenging its investigation into war crimes in Gaza since October 2023, reinforcing the probe into atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation. The ruling confirms earlier ICC decisions and removes a key procedural hurdle blocking accountability.
Judges noted that the post-October 2023 violence in Gaza falls under the same armed genocide already under scrutiny, rejecting Israel’s claim that the scale of attacks demanded a new legal process. The court’s decision bolsters arrest warrants issued in November 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Israel continues to reject ICC jurisdiction even as its occupation forces have killed nearly 70,700 Palestinians, including women and children, and wounded over 171,100 since October 2023, despite a ceasefire. The court emphasized that the ruling does not affect states’ ability to challenge admissibility, but it clears the way for Gaza investigations to proceed.
Humanitarian conditions remain catastrophic, with Israel maintaining severe restrictions on aid and reconstruction materials entering Gaza, leaving civilians exposed to extreme deprivation amid ongoing occupation policies.
