Gaza Herald – Heavy rainfall and violent winds have flooded hundreds of displacement tents across the Gaza Strip, plunging already uprooted families into renewed suffering as a new storm strikes. Entire areas have been submerged, exposing the fragility of forced displacement imposed on more than 1.5 million Palestinians living in torn tents and makeshift shelters under the Israeli occupation.
Local officials said that the flooding has worsened catastrophic living conditions, with families left without protection from rain, cold, or wind. Gaza’s Government Media Office warned that repeated storms are turning displacement sites into direct threats to civilian lives, as the occupation continues to block the entry of proper tents, mobile homes, and emergency shelter supplies, in clear violation of its humanitarian obligations.
Government Media Office Director General Ismail Al-Thawabta said the storm once again reveals the collapse of any minimum standard of safety for displaced civilians, stressing that what is unfolding is a compounded catastrophe created by genocide, siege, and deliberate obstruction of relief. He held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for any human losses caused by flooding, exposure, or collapsing shelters.
Weather experts have warned of further rainfall and possible flooding over the coming days, raising fears that thousands more families could be pushed to the brink. Officials and humanitarian voices are urging the United Nations, guarantor states, and international organizations to act immediately to force the occupation to open crossings and allow shelter materials in, warning that continued silence amounts to complicity in the ongoing genocide.
