Hamas Says It Is Ready to Surrender Its Arms Once Israel’s Occupation Ends

Gaza Herald – Hamas said Saturday it is prepared to place its weapons under the authority of a sovereign Palestinian state once Israel’s military occupation ends, framing its armed resistance as a temporary response to decades of aggression and genocide.

Khalil al-Hayya, the group’s chief negotiator and Gaza political leader, said Hamas’s weapons “are linked to the existence of the Israeli occupation,” and that once Israel withdraws fully from Palestinian land, arms would be transferred to the institutions of an independent state. His office clarified that the statement refers specifically to a sovereign Palestinian authority rather than any externally imposed administration.

Hayya added that Hamas would accept a UN-supervised separation force tasked with monitoring borders and enforcing a ceasefire, a clear rejection of proposals for an international force mandated to disarm Palestinian factions. The movement insisted that disarmament cannot occur under occupation or foreign military control.
