Gaza Municipality Warns of Imminent Famine Amid Continuing Total Siege

Gaza Herald – The Gaza Municipality issued a grave warning on Wednesday, saying that the city is on the brink of an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as the Israeli siege and full closure enter their third year.

According to municipal officials, Gaza is now facing the prospect of a mass famine “worse and more severe than ever before,” as markets have run completely dry and cash flow has collapsed.

“Hundreds of thousands remain trapped inside Gaza City with no food, no clean water, and no access to basic healthcare,” the municipality said, noting that what little remains in the markets is sold at prices far beyond the reach of ordinary citizens.

The statement emphasized that the total blockade has created a deadly spiral of deprivation. The near absence of humanitarian aid, combined with a complete financial paralysis, means residents cannot even meet their most basic daily needs.

Local and international estimates suggest that nearly half a million civilians, mostly children, women, and the elderly, are enduring starvation-level conditions. Gaza officials appealed once again to the international community to intervene immediately and ensure access to food, water, medicine, and critical care before the situation collapses entirely.

Since the start of the Israeli genocide on October 7, 2023, Gaza’s infrastructure has been systematically destroyed, including hospitals, water systems, and municipal services. UN reports confirm that the vast majority of the population is now suffering from “severe food insecurity”, warning of a total humanitarian breakdown if aid continues to be obstructed.

The municipality concluded that the situation in Gaza has moved beyond a humanitarian emergency; it is a deliberate starvation campaign and a war of extermination against an entire population, demanding urgent global action to end the siege and halt the ongoing genocide.
