Gaza Herald — The Hamas Movement announced early Thursday that it has agreed to the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza ceasefire plan, expressing appreciation for the mediation efforts of Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt.
In a statement shared on Telegram, Hamas said the agreement includes “an end to the war on Gaza, the withdrawal of the occupiers, the entry of humanitarian aid, and a prisoner exchange.”
“We greatly appreciate the efforts of our mediator brothers in Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye,” the statement read. “We also commend the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump, which aim for a final end to the war and the complete withdrawal of the occupying Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.”
The group called on the guarantor states of the deal , along with Arab, Islamic, and international actors ,to pressure Israel into upholding its commitments under the agreement.
“We emphasize that the sacrifices of our people will not be in vain, that we will remain true to our word, and that we will not relinquish our national rights, such as the right to freedom, independence, and self-determination,” the statement added.
The announcement came shortly after Trump declared that both Israel and Hamas had signed off on the first phase of the U.S.-brokered proposal.
Since the war began in October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, leaving Gaza in ruins and virtually uninhabitable.
