42,000 Palestinians Face Lifelong Disabilities from Israel’s Genocide in Gaza

Gaza Herald – Israel’s war on Gaza continues to unleash devastation, killing dozens more Palestinians on Thursday and leaving behind a trail of destruction that has permanently disabled tens of thousands. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has had full U.S. backing

has carried out a genocidal campaign that has killed more than 66,000 Palestinians and injured nearly 169,000, the overwhelming majority women and children.

Dozens Killed Across the Strip

At least 65 Palestinians have been killed since dawn in Israeli strikes that targeted refugee tents, crowded neighborhoods, and families seeking food and safety. Among the dead were thirteen Palestinians massacred while waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza, four members of a single family in Al-Bureij camp, and several others shot by Israeli drones. Hospitals across the Strip reported receiving dozens of bodies within hours, overwhelming an already broken healthcare system.

A Generation Living with Disabilities

The World Health Organization (WHO) revealed Thursday that about 42,000 Palestinians in Gaza now live with permanent disabilities from Israel’s attacks, and one in four of them is a child. More than 5,000 people have lost limbs, while tens of thousands more suffer life-altering injuries, including over 22,000 limb injuries, 2,000 spinal cord injuries, 1,300 brain injuries, and more than 3,300 severe burns.

“These injuries require lifelong rehabilitation and specialized care, but patients and families in Gaza are left without even the basics of survival,” said Richard Peeperkorn, WHO’s representative in the occupied Palestinian territories. He also warned of the severe psychological toll on survivors forced to live with permanent trauma, the loss of loved ones, and the suffocating reality of daily life under siege.

Healthcare Under Siege

WHO called for urgent international action to protect Gaza’s collapsing healthcare system, demanding an end to Israeli restrictions that block fuel, medicine, and essential supplies from entering. Hospitals remain under constant attack, while medical workers struggle to treat patients without electricity, clean water, or adequate equipment.

The tragedy of Gaza cannot be measured only by the death toll. Tens of thousands of Palestinians now face a lifetime of pain, disability, and trauma scars of a war waged with U.S. weapons and diplomatic cover. What is unfolding is not just a humanitarian crisis but a deliberate policy of destruction aimed at erasing an entire people’s future.
