Gaza Herald — Israeli bombardment on Tuesday evening claimed the life of celebrated Gaza photographer Yahya Barzeq, known for his tender portraits of newborn babies. The strike hit the city of Deir al-Balah, killing Barzeq alongside four other Palestinians.
Barzeq had dedicated his life to capturing Gaza’s youngest souls. He opened his small studio only a few years before the war, photographing babies who symbolized hope amid hardship. Tragically, many of the infants he once photographed have since been killed in the ongoing assault. For years, Barzeq mourned their loss through his art — until the day came when he himself was taken.

Forced to flee and close his studio as bombardments intensified, Barzeq carried his equipment through displacement, determined to keep pursuing his passion. He dreamed of leaving Gaza to expand his work abroad, but financial constraints and Israel’s siege made that impossible.
Local sources confirmed that Barzeq was killed alongside Yousef Ashraf Salman, Qusai Yousef Salman, Mohammed Yousef Salman, and Rajab Abu Jarrad when Israeli forces bombed a group of civilians near al-Bi’ah Street, west of Deir al-Balah.
The loss of Yahya Barzeq is more than personal grief for his family and friends — it is another wound to Gaza’s cultural and human spirit. Israel’s war is not only destroying homes and lives; it is extinguishing the dreams, creativity, and future of an entire generation.
