Mecca Tower Destruction: Israel’s War on Shelters

Gaza Herald – Israel’s campaign of annihilation in Gaza has reached yet another brutal milestone. On Sunday, the Israeli military bombed Mecca Tower in Gaza City’s al-Rimal neighborhood, which is a multi-story residential building for Dozens of Palestinian families.

The Israeli army had issued a one-hour warning before striking, ordering residents to flee south toward al-Mawasi. But the so-called “safe zone” is a cruel illusion. Al-Mawasi, now crammed with over a million Palestinians living in unimaginable deprivation, has been repeatedly bombed. Food and clean water are almost nonexistent. Disease spreads unchecked. Survival itself has become a daily struggle.

This is not an isolated act. Over the past weeks, Israel has systematically flattened dozens of towers and hundreds of residential blocks across Gaza City. Rights groups warn this is a deliberate strategy of mass displacement, to erase Gaza City, empty it of Palestinians, and tighten the grip of military occupation.

On September 21, Israel openly announced the expansion of its ground operations in Gaza as part of a phased plan to seize the entire Strip. The demolition of Mecca Tower is not just another strike, but a symbol of the larger project: the destruction of Palestinian life and the forced removal of an entire population under the cover of “security operations.”

With full U.S. backing, Israel’s campaign has killed more than 66,000 Palestinians and injured over 168,000, the overwhelming majority women and children. At least 442 people, including 147 children, have already starved to death due to the engineered famine.
