Gaza Herald- A seven-month-old Palestinian baby, Jouda Al-Attar, was killed on Saturday by Israeli gunfire while sitting in his mother’s arms inside a displacement tent in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, an area the occupation claims is “safe.”
At Nasser Hospital, relatives and mourners bid farewell to the infant, who succumbed to his wounds after a bullet tore through his tiny body. His grieving mother, Aya Al-Attar, collapsed in tears: “He was in my lap when the bullet struck him, ripping through his stomach. He was a candle, loved by everyone.”
The child’s uncle, Thaer Abu Jarz, confirmed the shot came as the baby sat in his mother’s embrace. His grandfather, Musa Al-Attar, held the boy one last time before burial, describing Israel’s actions as “ethnic cleansing aimed at uprooting Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank alike.”
Despite Israel’s repeated claims that Al-Mawasi is a designated “humanitarian safe zone,” the area has endured more than 110 airstrikes and constant bombardment since the genocide began nearly two years ago, killing over 2,000 displaced people, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office. Palestinians report that the supposed safe zone, now home to nearly a million displaced, has been repeatedly targeted by gunfire from Israeli vehicles, sniper drones, artillery, and air raids.
The humanitarian situation in Al-Mawasi remains dire, with families lacking hospitals, infrastructure, clean water, and food. Gaza’s media office has described life in the area as “closer to impossible.”
