Gaza Herald- The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned about the man-made hunger in Gaza caused by Israel, calling on it to lift the ban on Gaza’s crossings and to allow the entry of food to save lives. He reported that more than 370 people have starved to death since the war began in October 2023.
Ghebreyesus stated at a press conference at the organization, which is based in Geneva, that “it is a catastrophe that only Israel can prevent and stop from deteriorating.”
On 22 August, the United Nations warned about the escalating famine in some areas of Gaza, while Israel claimed that famine thresholds have not been crossed.
“Since 7 October 2023, over 370 people have suffered from malnutrition in Gaza, with 300 of those cases reported in the last two months,” added Ghebreyesus.
The Director-General further stated, “People are dying from hunger, whereas aid trucks now sit in limbo at the borders.”
“Using starvation against civilians as a weapon of war is a war crime, calling for those responsible to be held accountable and warning of severe and imminent conflict,” he said.
