Eight Starved to Death in Gaza over the Past 24 Hours, Including Child

Gaza Herald- Medical authorities in the Gaza Strip confirmed Tuesday that eight more Palestinians, including a child, have died of starvation and malnutrition in the past 24 hours, as Israel’s devastating siege and bombing campaign drags into its 670th day.

The deaths were recorded at hospitals across the enclave, which has been cut off from regular food and medical supplies for months. According to medical sources, the victims included one child and seven adults, all displaced civilians who had been struggling to survive under worsening famine conditions.

The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza continues to deepen, with the entire population now facing extreme hunger. Since March 2, 2025, Israeli authorities have kept all crossings closed, preventing most aid from entering the besieged territory. The result, aid agencies say, has been the rapid spread of starvation, particularly among children, the sick, and the elderly.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip through mass killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in open defiance of international appeals and binding orders from the International Court of Justice to cease its actions.

The ongoing genocide has left more than 209,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them women and children, with over 11,000 still missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and famine has claimed scores of lives in a population already reeling from war and siege.

The famine is not an unintended consequence of conflict, international experts warn; it is part of a deliberate strategy.

In a recent statement reported by The Guardian, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food accused Israel of committing genocide through a systematic policy of starvation.

“Israel has created the most efficient starvation machine in Gaza,” the rapporteur said, calling it both a war crime and a crime against humanity. He stressed that the Israeli government has long had the capacity to relieve the hunger crisis but has instead chosen to maintain and exploit it.

The rapporteur further alleged that some humanitarian actors operating in Gaza have been used to “control and humiliate” the population, turning aid into a tool of social fragmentation and psychological warfare. He warned that the international community’s continued silence amounts to complicity.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue to bomb areas sheltering displaced Palestinians, including tent encampments and zones designated for aid distribution, deepening the suffering of a population already pushed to the edge.
