GAZA- An American doctor confirmed that the Israeli security forces confiscated the baby formula cans he put in for Gaza’s infants before being allowed in the Gaza Strip as part of a medical aid mission.
Since March, about 50 children have died of hunger due to the leaking of this indispensable product in Gaza’s markets.
By the end of June, he was getting ready to travel to Gaza as part of a medical mission. He had packed his suitcases with baby formula cans, gauze, bandages, and sanitary pads, realizing that Gaza lacks these indispensable products.
Upon his arrival at the mandatory gathering point for foreign medical missions in Amman heading to Gaza, the coordinator of the convoy and Palestinian-German ophthalmic surgeon Diana Bazzal, urged him to reduce his baggage.
“If you only hold medical supplies with nothing of your personal belongings, you will be denied entry, or worse, put the whole mission in danger,” she warned.
He followed her instructions, reducing the cans of baby formula in his luggage to just three remaining. Upon his arrival at the Allenby Bridge Crossing, located between Jordan and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, his luggage was inspected by Israeli security guards who were manning the terminal on the Palestinian side.
“The baby formula was confiscated,” said Nazzal. Local health workers said: “What other explanation is there, if it’s not that hunger is being used as a weapon of war in the ongoing genocide in Gaza?”
Markets in Gaza witness an acute shortage of baby formula, yet a lot of mothers suffer from a lack of premature babies’ formula and lactose-free formula for babies who suffer from intolerance.
