Civil Defense: 117 Apts, 819 Residents Hit in Al-Sabra Strike

Gaza Herald – Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal confirmed that recent Israeli targeting of the Al-Sabra area in Gaza City caused widespread destruction to residential buildings. The strikes resulted in severe humanitarian suffering as hundreds of citizens lost their homes.

Bassal detailed the findings following field monitoring and damage assessment operations. He stated that the bombardment led to the complete collapse of twelve residential apartments. Families residing in these units were left with no shelter, facing immediate displacement from their residences.

Additionally, forty-one other apartments suffered extremely severe damage. Some of these structures are now uninhabitable. Sixty-four more apartments sustained partial damage. These figures indicate a significant disruption to housing stability within the affected neighborhood.

The total number of damaged apartments reached approximately 117. These units house roughly 819 citizens who are currently divided into three categories. Some families have completely lost their homes, while others cannot return due to structural unsafety. Others face the burden of repairing damage under complex humanitarian conditions.

The spokesperson emphasized that the impact of the shelling extends beyond the initial moment of the strike. It continues through the subsequent search for safety and shelter. He noted that these numbers reflect a bitter reality endured by hundreds of children, women, and elderly people.

These vulnerable groups have lost their stability and homes amid the ongoing aggression on the Strip. The Civil Defense report highlights the continuous strain placed on civilian infrastructure and the daily lives of those remaining in the area.
