Gaza Herald _In a harrowing account detailing systemic military atrocities during the ongoing genocidal assault on Gaza, witness testimonies collected by the Hebrew-language outlet Ha-Makom indicate that Israeli soldiers from Battalion 50 of the Nahal Brigade cold-bloodedly executed an elderly, frail Palestinian woman after removing her from a military vehicle.
According to testimonies, the elderly woman was initially detained during an operation in Rafah and southern Gaza in May 2024.
Restrained, blindfolded, and suffering from physical illness, she was being transported in an Israeli military HMMWV toward the border when the convoy was halted following a phone call received by the accompanying officer. The officer then ordered the vulnerable woman out of the vehicle and shot her dead in cold blood before resuming the journey. When horrified low-ranking soldiers questioned the summary execution, the officer justified the war crime by stating, “These are Yisri’s orders.”
The officer referenced is Major Menahem “Mandy” Yisri, the deputy commander of Battalion 50 at the time. This incident adds to a grim track record of alleged systemic atrocities linked to Yisri; a prior investigation published by Ha-Makom revealed that he previously attached an explosive belt around the neck of an 80-year-old Palestinian man, using him as a human shield before abandoning him and his wife in an active combat zone, where they were subsequently gunned down by other Israeli troops.
Rather than facing accountability or facing trial for flagrant breaches of international humanitarian law, Yisri was promoted shortly after the incident. He was subsequently enrolled in prestigious command and staff courses and sent to pursue higher education at the military’s expense, highlighting the pervasive culture of impunity surrounding Israeli war crimes and the state’s ongoing disregard for Palestinian human life.
