Gaza Herald — Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem condemned a new Israeli attack on a civilian site in the Gaza Strip, calling it a “brutal massacre” and a dangerous escalation that demonstrates complete disregard for calls to uphold the ceasefire.
In a statement, Qassem said the Peace Council bears responsibility for the escalation because it has failed to exert sufficient pressure on the Israeli occupation and compel it to abide by what was agreed.
He said the latest attack places the Peace Council before a “real test” of its ability and seriousness in managing mediation efforts and negotiations aimed at maintaining the ceasefire.
Qassem also criticized statements by Peace Council officials that he said contradict agreements reached during negotiations, warning that such remarks provide the Israeli occupation with political cover to escalate its attacks against Palestinians in Gaza.
The Hamas spokesperson called for stronger pressure on the Israeli occupation to halt its attacks and comply with the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
