Israel Releases 35 Palestinian Detainees from Gaza After Prolonged Captivity

Gaza Herald – Israeli authorities released 35 Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip on Sunday, including a woman, after holding them for varying periods at different locations across Gaza during Israel’s genocide on the besieged territory.

The released Palestinians arrived at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, after the International Committee of the Red Cross facilitated their transfer from the Kerem Shalom crossing.

The Red Cross said it had facilitated the transfer of the 35 detainees released by Israeli authorities from Kerem Shalom to Nasser Medical Complex.

Palestinian prisoner organizations said Israel has continued to release detainees from Gaza in limited numbers and at irregular intervals. Many Palestinians released from Israeli detention have reportedly emerged in visibly weakened and exhausted condition after enduring harsh detention conditions.

According to the latest figures published by Palestinian prisoner organizations through July 2026, approximately 9,400 Palestinian prisoners and detainees are held in Israeli prisons, including around 1,320 Palestinians from Gaza whom Israeli authorities classify under the designation of “unlawful combatant.”

Palestinian prisoner organizations stress that these figures do not include thousands of Palestinians reportedly held in military and undisclosed detention facilities operated by the Israeli military, including Sde Teiman, amid a continuing lack of sufficient information about their whereabouts and conditions.

For Palestinian families in Gaza, the release of the 35 detainees offers a rare glimpse of relatives returning home after months or longer in Israeli custody, while thousands of other Palestinian detainees remain behind bars with families still waiting for information about their fate.
