Gaza Herald – Five citizens, including three children, were killed and six others injured when a sand slope collapsed on displacement tents in Deir Al-Balah. The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the center of the Gaza Strip.
Our correspondent confirmed the retrieval of five martyrs and six injured individuals, some in critical condition, from two families sheltering in a southern camp in Deir Al-Balah.
The Gaza Civil Defense announced the deaths of five citizens, stating that search operations are ongoing for missing persons resulting from the collapse at the same southern displacement center.
This tragedy unfolds as displaced citizens face worsening hardships due to heavy rains and an atmospheric depression affecting the strip. These weather conditions have flooded tents and damaged shelters across various governorates.
Continuous appeals have been made for urgent intervention to provide safe shelter and winter supplies. A strong atmospheric depression struck Gaza over the past two days, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds.
These conditions led to the flooding of tens of thousands of tents and shelters, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas. The Civil Defense reported that approximately 70 thousand tents were submerged during the depression.
Hundreds of families were displaced after rainwater swept away their carpets, blankets, and belongings. This situation highlights a significant inability to cope with the crisis.
The capacity to respond is severely limited due to the destruction of infrastructure and the continued Israeli blockade. The blockade prevents the entry of essential shelter and repair materials needed to address the damage.
