Gaza Herald — Israeli occupation authorities are systematically restricting hundreds of Palestinian child amputees in the Gaza Strip from traveling abroad to receive vital medical treatment and rehabilitation, according to a severe exposé published by the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.
The Geneva-based rights organization confirmed that at least 1,134 Palestinian children have undergone traumatic limb amputations as a direct result of ongoing Israeli military attacks.
Despite requiring urgent, specialized long-term care, the overwhelming majority of these injured children remain trapped in Gaza due to the hermetic closure of border crossings and the tight Israeli military blockade on medical evacuations.
The blockade has shattered Gaza’s physical rehabilitation infrastructure, leaving a mere eight certified prosthetics and orthotics specialists to serve thousands of patients across the enclave.
World Health Organization data reveals that out of 2,300 amputees assessed for treatment, fewer than 500 have received permanent prosthetics due to severe shortages of manufacturing materials, fitting equipment, and maintenance supplies blocked at border checkpoints by Israeli occupation forces.
Euro-Med Monitor warned that denying growing children timely surgical follow-up, prosthetic adjustments, and rehabilitation risks converting acute war injuries into lifelong physical disability, chronic pain, and permanent physical deprivation.
Weaponized Blockade and War Crimes Under the Genocide Convention
The systemic denial of medical care is illustrated by the case of 11-year-old Palestinian child Ahmad Al-Shaer, who suffered paralysis and lost his hand when an Israeli artillery shell struck near him.
His mother, Fidaa Ahmad Al-Shaer, reported that despite requiring multiple specialized surgeries abroad and an adaptive prosthetic hand, her son remains trapped without care due to the total closure of border crossings by Israeli occupation forces. Rights monitors stress that the deliberate ban on entry permits for international medical teams and specialized equipment directly prevents local healthcare workers from treating catastrophic pediatric trauma.
Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor explicitly accused Israeli authorities of committing war crimes and acts of genocide under Article 2 of the Genocide Convention by intentionally inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of Palestinian children.
Rights advocates emphasize that the deliberate amputation of children’s limbs through heavy weaponry, coupled with the systematic obstruction of their medical rehabilitation and prosthetic care, forms an integral element of Israel’s ongoing campaign of engineered physical destruction across the occupied Gaza Strip.
