Iran Designates British Royal Navy and RAF as Terrorist Groups

Gaza Herald – Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday designated Britain’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as terrorist organisations. The move serves as retaliation for what Tehran described as hostile actions by the British government. These actions include London’s designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a “terrorist organisation.” The ministry also labeled Britain’s foreign intelligence service, MI6, a “hostile group.” According to Iran’s Mehr News Agency, these measures took effect on 1 November.

The decision was taken under a resolution by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. It followed Britain’s designation of the IRGC under the State Threats Act 2026 on 13 July. The ministry stated this context in its official announcement, as reported by Mehr. Tehran accused Britain of participating in the US-Israeli war against Iran. Specifically, it cited providing access to military and logistical bases under British jurisdiction.

The ministry said the measures were based on the principle of reciprocity. They claimed compliance with international law. Officials added that the British government would be responsible for any consequences arising from these designations. This stance reflects a direct response to escalating tensions between the two nations regarding regional security policies.

According to Mehr, the ministry condemned “Britain’s anti-Iranian policies.” It argued these policies violated the principles of the United Nations Charter. Key violations cited included respect for national sovereignty. The statement also highlighted the prohibition of unlawful measures against other states. This diplomatic clash underscores the deepening rift between Tehran and London over regional influence and military posturing.
