Gaza Herald – A human rights organisation has accused Israeli forces of killing 14-year-old Mohammed al-Zinati in a guided strike as he attempted to help a wounded civil defence worker in northern Gaza.
The organisation said Thursday that it published footage showing al-Zinati rushing to help the wounded man following an initial Israeli attack in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood before a second strike hit the area.
According to the group, the second attack involved a guided munition. It argued that the circumstances of the strike raised serious concerns that the child was deliberately targeted while attempting to rescue the wounded.
The organisation said intentionally targeting civilians, including children and people attempting to assist the wounded, would constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and could amount to a war crime.
The incident comes amid continued Israeli attacks in Gaza despite the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025. Palestinian human rights organisations have documented repeated Israeli drone strikes, airstrikes and gunfire that have killed and wounded civilians since the agreement.
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights reported this week that Israeli forces killed at least 16 Palestinians, including a woman and her unborn child, in attacks across Gaza between September 11 and 15. The organisation said the attacks targeted or affected residential areas, displacement camps, vehicles and Palestinians moving through the streets.
Palestinian authorities say more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, including thousands of children, while tens of thousands more have been wounded.
Rights organisations have repeatedly called for investigations and accountability over attacks on Palestinian civilians and warned that the continued killings demonstrate that Palestinians remain at risk despite the ceasefire.
