Gaza Herald – Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director-General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, reported that Israeli occupation forces have continued to deliberately and systematically target Palestinian police officers since the start of the genocide, in blatant violation of international humanitarian law protections for civil security personnel.
Al-Thawabta said in press statements that over 2,800 police officers have been killed as part of a policy aimed at undermining Gaza’s civil infrastructure and weakening institutions responsible for maintaining public order.
He noted that Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire agreement implemented in October 2025, with dozens of police officers killed even during periods of relative calm, highlighting the ongoing breaches of both the agreement and international obligations.
Following the escalation linked to the war on Iran, more than 15 additional officers have been killed, reflecting the expansion of these targeted attacks. Al-Thawabta emphasized that this strategy seeks to destabilize internal security and sow chaos by attacking the body responsible for law enforcement, further hampering police effectiveness amid Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.
He added that police forces continue to perform their duties under challenging circumstances, implementing precautionary measures and reorganizing deployments to reduce risk while maintaining essential services for citizens.
The media office also coordinates with international intermediaries, submitting daily documented reports of violations to strengthen accountability. The latest attack occurred in Al-Nuseirat refugee camp, where a Palestinian police vehicle was targeted, killing four officers and injuring several others, as part of a sustained campaign against Gaza’s police forces.
