Gaza Herald- Hamas has sharply condemned remarks attributed to Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, in which she reportedly called for the disarmament of Palestinian resistance factions.
The Movement stressed that such statements “do not serve the Palestinian people or their national cause” at a time when unity is urgently needed.
In an official statement, Hamas reaffirmed that armed resistance and the preservation of its weapons remain an “inalienable national right” for as long as Israel’s military occupation continues. The group emphasized that these arms could only be set aside once the Palestinian people had regained all of their legitimate rights and achieved full independence in a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Movement expressed its “astonishment” that such comments were made in the midst of what it described as Israel’s “brutal genocide” in Gaza, along with an unrelenting drive to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. Hamas said these realities only reinforce the need for a strong and united front against Israeli aggression.
The statement urged the Palestinian Authority’s leadership to retract the remarks and to stand with the broader Palestinian struggle, joining resistance groups in confronting Israeli policies “aimed at erasing our people, dismantling our cause, and seizing our land.”
