Gaza Herald– For Palestinians in Gaza, the act of seeking food has become a matter of life and death. What should be a humanitarian effort has turned into a blood-soaked routine, as Israeli forces repeatedly target civilians gathered at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid distribution sites. Instead of relief, these sites have become zones of horror, where people, already weakened by starvation, face the constant threat of being gunned down.
Violent assaults on aid seekers have become a daily reality. As famine deepens across the besieged enclave, with malnutrition and hunger-related deaths sharply rising, thousands of Palestinians risk their lives in hopes of securing even the smallest amount of food. In southern Gaza, near Khan Younis, desperate crowds swarm the rare aid trucks that are allowed to enter through Israeli-controlled crossings. For many, a single bag of flour is the difference between survival and starvation. Yet they must contend not just with hunger, but with the very real possibility of being attacked while trying to feed their families.
Witnesses and survivors have described horrifying scenes at these distribution points. Mohamed Awad, a father trying to feed his children, recounted his experience to Al Jazeera from a hospital bed: “I went to the Morag Corridor in Khan Younis to get flour for my kids. I climbed into the aid truck and grabbed a bag. Suddenly, Israeli forces fired a grenade at us.”
The attack didn’t end there. According to survivors, the Israeli military fired live ammunition and carried out aerial strikes on unarmed civilians. “They hit young men and women,” said Amal al-Mughir, another aid seeker who narrowly escaped death. “They launched strikes and used live bullets. This is supposed to be humanitarian aid. Instead, it’s torment. We witnessed death in every shape and form.”
No Choice Left
Despite the dangers, Palestinians continue to return to these sites because they have no other choice. Entire families go days without food. Parents are forced to choose between risking their lives or watching their children waste away from hunger. The fear of coming home empty-handed is often outweighed by the fear of not coming home at all.
These brutal assaults at aid distribution points lay bare the cruel reality of life under siege in Gaza. Rather than facilitating humanitarian relief, Israel has turned the delivery of aid into a weapon, another tool in its campaign to starve, humiliate, and eliminate a besieged population. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, backed by Israel and the U.S., has become synonymous not with mercy but with death.
For Palestinians, the line between survival and annihilation is now drawn at the gates of an aid truck. True humanitarian relief must not be delivered at gunpoint. It must be anchored in justice, dignity, and the right of every Palestinian to live free from violence, hunger, and fear.
