Gaza Herald- Long before the events of October 7, 2023, violations by Israeli settlers had been escalating with the authorization of Israeli government officials, making them even more blatant and severe.
This policy ultimately aims to displace Palestinians from their lands by exploiting two key factors: the global focus on Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, and the ultra-nationalist right-wing Israeli government, which has encouraged and emboldened settlers to escalate their violence and human rights violations against Palestinians. This strategy seeks to impose facts on the ground that contradict the Two-State Solution and existing agreements.
Journalist Jeremy Diamond, a CNN correspondent based in Jerusalem, stated that Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank attacked him and his team while they were documenting the killing of a person holding American citizenship earlier this week.
On Friday, Diamond visited the father of 20-year-old Saif Musallet, who was killed by a group of Israeli settlers in the occupied territory, to offer his condolences.
“As we were covering this story, my team & I were attacked by Israeli settlers. The back window of our vehicle was smashed, but we managed to escape unharmed,” he wrote on X. “This is just a sliver of the reality many Palestinians face in the West Bank amid rising settler violence.”
Settlers in the occupied territories continue to commit egregious crimes against Palestinians and journalists with complete impunity.
“We have been reporting for the past years about settlers attacking Palestinian communities in their land in the West Bank with impunity and this really is the crux of the matter, the impunity that the perpetrators of such actions have been enjoying,” Ms. Shamdasani said.
