Gaza Herald – The fragile ceasefire in Gaza was shattered within hours of its declaration, as Israeli fighter jets struck yet another civilian target, a school turned shelter, leaving behind a scene of devastation and despair. The attack underscores the continued vulnerability of displaced Palestinians even in so-called “safe zones,” and raises renewed questions about Israel’s commitment to peace and international law.
In a flagrant violation of the newly declared ceasefire, Israeli warplanes bombed Al-Sardi School in Camp 2 of Nuseirat Refugee Camp, which had been sheltering hundreds of displaced families. The strike killed four Palestinians and wounded 13 others, most of them children.
Medical teams at Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat confirmed that the bodies of the victims arrived mutilated and beyond recognition, many with severe burns, crushed limbs, and traumatic amputations. Hospital staff described a scene of horror, with survivors struggling to breathe through smoke and debris.
“It was horrifying, the victims were mostly children, burned and torn apart in their sleep,” said a paramedic at the scene, visibly shaken.
Eyewitnesses described chaos and screams echoing through the schoolyard as the missile tore through classrooms filled with sleeping families.
“The explosion was massive , we pulled out children burned and screaming for their parents,” said one local volunteer who helped rescue survivors from the rubble.
The bombing marks a grave breach of the ceasefire agreement announced earlier in the day by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had called on both sides to “exercise maximum restraint.” Instead, Israel’s renewed airstrikes deepened the fear and trauma gripping Gaza’s already displaced population.
Humanitarian organizations swiftly condemned the attack, warning that the repeated targeting of schools, hospitals, and refugee shelters illustrates Israel’s persistent disregard for international humanitarian law. They emphasized that Gaza’s civilians, particularly women and children, remain trapped in a war zone with no safe place left to go.
As Gaza’s children are pulled from the wreckage of yet another shattered school, the international community faces a familiar moral test: whether to remain silent in the face of collective punishment or to hold Israel accountable for its relentless assaults on civilians ,finally. For the people of Gaza, the promise of peace has once again turned to ash amid the ruins of their classrooms and homes.
