Gaza Herald – Gaza’s civil defense service has raised alarms over Israeli efforts to forcibly evacuate tens of thousands from Gaza City and northern regions, warning of a looming humanitarian catastrophe if more than one million people are relocated to the already overcrowded central and southern parts of the territory.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal said Israel’s plan to push residents from their homes comes after massive destruction in Gaza City. He noted that the Israeli army has already destroyed more than 85 percent of homes and infrastructure in the ash-Shuja’iya and al-Tuffah neighborhoods, as well as around 70 percent in az-Zeitoun, al-Sabra, Jabalia an-Nazla, and Jabalia al-Balad.
Basal cited international and UN reports confirming that the so-called humanitarian zone, where displaced civilians are being told to move, makes up only about 12 percent of Gaza’s total land area.
“This would mean forcing over two million Palestinians to live in a densely packed area lacking even the most basic living conditions,” he warned.
With homes leveled, infrastructure shattered, and safe areas shrinking, Gaza’s population faces the prospect of displacement into dangerously overcrowded zones, deepening an already dire humanitarian crisis.
