Gaza Herald- Thirteen Palestinians, among them three children, have died of starvation in the past 24 hours as famine tightens its grip on the besieged enclave, Gaza’s health ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry reported that famine-related deaths since the start of Israel’s war have climbed to 361, including 130 children. August alone saw 185 deaths from hunger, the highest monthly toll so far, with 70 children among the victims.
Health officials warn that 43,000 children under five and 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women are suffering from malnutrition, while nearly two-thirds of pregnant women are anemic which is the highest rate recorded in years.
With hospitals overwhelmed, food and medical supplies blocked, and aid deliveries paralyzed, Gaza is now facing what health workers describe as an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.”
In a related update, Gaza’s Government Media Office (GMO) announced on Monday that only 534 aid trucks have entered Gaza over the past five days, far short of the estimated 3,000 needed.
The GMO confirmed that aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip remain severely insufficient to meet the population’s needs. They added that most of the aid trucks that did manage to enter were looted.
Over the past 35 days, only 3,188 trucks—just 15 percent of the estimated 21,000 trucks needed to cover basic humanitarian requirements—have reached Gaza.
