Doctors in Chains: Israel Jails Hundreds of Gaza Medics Since October Offensive

Gaza Herlad– Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza continues to target not only civilians but also the very lifeline of any society, its medical workers. The arrest and killing of healthcare professionals reflect a deliberate effort to dismantle Gaza’s ability to care for its wounded and sick.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health has revealed that over 360 medical workers have been arrested by Israeli forces inside the besieged territory since the war erupted in October 2023. The detained personnel, many of whom are doctors, are reportedly subjected to deplorable and inhumane conditions, worsening the health crisis in an already devastated enclave.

According to the ministry, the arrest and imprisonment of doctors and paramedics have left thousands of wounded Palestinians without critical care, turning hospitals into morgues and delaying life-saving procedures. The ministry described these actions as deliberate and unlawful, and called on the international community to intervene, demanding the recognition of these arrests as war crimes and urging immediate pressure on Israel to release the detained medical staff.

The scale of devastation goes beyond arrests. Since the onset of Israel’s assault, at least 1,400 healthcare workers have been killed, the Health Ministry added — a grim toll that underscores the relentless attacks on Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure.

The international community must no longer remain silent in the face of such calculated cruelty. The arrest, torture, and killing of medical personnel are not just violations of the Geneva Conventions; they are assaults on the very essence of humanity. As Gaza bleeds, its doctors are imprisoned, and its hospitals are turned to rubble, global indifference is complicity. Justice demands action, and the world must stand with Palestine to defend those who heal, even amid war.
