Gaza Herald — Gaza government officials and representatives of UN, international and Arab organizations held an emergency meeting on Thursday to coordinate an urgent humanitarian response as hundreds of damaged buildings across the Gaza Strip face the risk of collapse.
The meeting, attended by 35 officials and representatives, was convened following the recent collapse of the Bayt Al-Saada building in Gaza City, which highlighted the growing danger posed by buildings severely damaged during Israeli attacks.
Participants discussed the role of UN, international and Arab organizations in responding to Gaza’s worsening humanitarian conditions and explored ways to strengthen emergency relief and logistical support.
The meeting concluded with a series of urgent recommendations, prioritizing immediate intervention to address hundreds of cracked and structurally damaged buildings at risk of collapse and prevent further casualties.
Government ministries and institutions said they would mobilize available resources and facilitate the implementation of an emergency response plan. Authorities also committed to allocating land for temporary shelter camps to protect families living in unsafe buildings.
Participants called for an urgent international humanitarian appeal and urged mediators to facilitate the immediate entry of heavy machinery, equipment, fuel and other supplies needed for rescue, demolition and emergency operations.
Officials stressed that the equipment is essential to address unstable buildings and prevent further tragedies similar to the collapse of Bayt Al-Saada.
