Gaza Herald — Gaza’s healthcare system continues to face severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies, leaving hundreds of thousands of patients in urgent need of essential treatment, according to the director of Medical Relief in Gaza City.
The official said the shortage of medicines and medical equipment has persisted for a long time, with between 300,000 and 350,000 patients urgently requiring medication, particularly those receiving diabetes treatment.
He stressed that all areas of the Gaza Strip are in desperate need of medicines and laboratory supplies, warning that existing stocks are insufficient to meet the population’s growing medical needs.
The official called for increased international pressure to allow essential medicines to enter Gaza, saying that the restrictions on their entry have contributed to the worsening shortage.
He added that the quantities of medicines currently reaching the Gaza Strip remain extremely limited and fall far short of the territory’s needs, placing further strain on an already overwhelmed healthcare system.
The director also expressed hope that the national committee would be allowed to enter the Gaza Strip, assess the deteriorating humanitarian and medical conditions firsthand, and work toward addressing the shortages and alleviating the suffering of patients.
