Kuwait Palestinians Reject PNC Selection as Electoral Farce

Gaza Herald – The Palestinian community in Kuwait strongly condemned the procedure used to select its representatives for the new Palestinian National Council on Monday. In a statement issued by the community, they expressed absolute rejection of the events that took place under the label of elections.

The group described the process as a “formalistic electoral farce” that occurred away from direct and wide participation by members of the diaspora. They argued that reducing the will of thousands of Palestinians residing in Kuwait to a limited group chosen via an “electoral college” constitutes a disregard for their right to choose their own representatives.

According to the statement, this selective procedure cannot be portrayed as a democratic celebration. The community declared its total rejection of the outcomes in detail, demanding full transparency regarding the mechanism used to select the electoral college and the criteria upon which it was built.

They further called for the public disclosure of participant numbers and voting procedures. The statement emphasized that transforming the formation of the National Council, which represents the highest legislative authority for Palestinians, into formalistic and selective procedures is unacceptable.

The community stressed that these actions take place far from national consensus and the unifying popular will. They asserted that national representation is an inherent right of the Palestinian people that cannot be confiscated or reduced to formalistic procedures.

Furthermore, the statement clarified that any national council deriving its legal and political legitimacy from the true will and actual participation of Palestinians is essential. A council lacking such genuine engagement loses its core nature and national character.

The Palestinian community in Kuwait maintained that the current approach undermines the fundamental principles of representation. They insisted that legitimacy must stem from the active involvement of the populace rather than restricted internal selections.

This stance highlights deep concerns within the diaspora about the inclusivity of current political processes. The rejection underscores a broader demand for democratic standards that reflect the actual wishes of Palestinians living abroad.

The community’s position serves as a significant critique of the methods employed to constitute the new legislative body. It calls for a reevaluation of how representatives are chosen to ensure they truly reflect the diverse segments of the Palestinian population.

By labeling the event a farce, the community aims to draw attention to the lack of broad-based consent. Their demands for transparency remain central to their argument against the current selection framework.
